Submit to the Horse!
submit@emergencyhorse.com
Generally, familiarity with Emergency Horse is a good idea. Check out our Substack, as well as our previously published issues.
You should understand Emergency Horse is not your run-of-the-mill magazine. Our goal is presenting material you can’t find anywhere else whether it’s a cutting edge short story, an interview of an important artist or world shaker, a mind-bending poem, an essay delving into a pressing social topic from an original point of view or artwork that will make you ponder reality. We like to laugh at the ironic and thought provoking. We believe fiction, poetry and visual art are not for communication—they’re meant to be felt and experienced.
Poetry
- Submit up to 5 poems.
- They will be considered for the ink-and-newsprint and/or the online magazine.
- We will likely choose shorter pieces for the physical magazine, but if it’s really great, we might publish longer pieces there. Otherwise, they will have a better shot on Substack.
- Absolutely no NW poems about deer droppings by the mailbox.
Art and Photographs
- Submit it at 72ppi—if we want to put it in the physical magazine, we’ll ask for it at 300 ppi.
- The magazine is in black and white, online color.
- We’re always in need of illustrations for stories, poems and journalism…or just to fill space in the magazine. If you’re interested in such an endeavor, send us examples of your work and if we like it, we’ll set you to task.
